The Guilford County Sheriff's Office consists of more than 650 employees divided among the Operations Bureau and the Detention Bureau, and is one of the largest Sheriff's Offices in North Carolina. Guilford County encompasses approximately 650 square miles with a population of over 440,000 residents.
The Guilford County Sheriff's Office protects it's citizens more efficiently by having three district substations that consist of patrol officers and criminal investigators readily accessible to the public. District One is in the Northwest area, District 2 in the Eastern area and District 3 in the Southwest area of Guilford County. Other divisions of the Guilford County Sheriff's Office include Legal Process, Transportation, Courtroom Services and Special Operations.
Legal Process is comprised of a Civil Process Squad, Warrant Squad and Family Services Unit. Transportation Officers are responsible for transporting inmates to required destinations. Courtroom Services are comprised of Baliffs, who provide security for traffic, juvenile, family, district and superior courts. The Special Operations Division is responsible for investigating major and vice related crimes, and the collection and analyzation of evidence.
Detention Services is comprised of the Greensboro and High Point Detention Facilities and the Guilford County Prison Farm. Detention Officers are responsible for the care and custody of approximately 950 inmates on a daily basis.
