Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes reports that on Thursday, January 22, 2015 members of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office and High Point Police Department will be conducting an investigative checkpoint at the intersection of Fairfield Road and Hwy 62 today in an effort to gather more information regarding this case. Officers will gather at 11:30 am to coordinate the checkpoint to be conducted between 11:45 am and 12:45 pm. Any member of the public who was in the area who may have information is encouraged to meet with officers at this location today.
Deputies responded to 1603 East Fairfield Road on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at approximately 12:37 pm, in High Point in reference to an attempted robbery and shooting of an individual at his residence. Upon arrival they found the victim, Vann Lee Yates (W/M, 57 YOA) suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported to High Point Regional Hospital and later to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
A witness reported two black males were involved. One was reported to be 5’6” to 5’08”, medium build, dark complexion, early to mid-thirties, wearing a grey hoodie, black pants, and black shoes. This subject was reported to have a scar under his right eye.
The second subject was approximately 5’09”, medium build, dark complexion, early to midthirties, wearing a black long-sleeve hoodie shirt, black pants, and black shoes.
