Guilford County Sheriff's Office

Operation Stop Arm

On any given school day, there are about 650 school buses being operated in Guilford County during peak commute times in the morning and afternoon, according to Jeff Harris, Guilford County Transportation Director. The Sheriff’s Office is coordinating an effort with other law enforcement agencies in Guilford County to stop drivers who ignore the safety needs of our kids. We want drivers to be aware and looking for the stop arm.

Each officer will be assigned a specific school bus or school zone, with the goal of getting voluntary compliance to reduce the number of incidents occurring in Guilford County. At this beginning of the school year, Sheriff Barnes wants to remind the public that our children deserve the best protection we can give them, as they travel to school to get an education. Speeding in a school zone or passing a stopped school bus will not be tolerated.

All inquiries please contact Sgt. C. L. Apple, at 366-420-4135.
